'X-Men: Apocalypse' News: Famke Janssen Wants to Return to Franchise; Tye Sheridan Pays Tribute to James Marsden's Cyclops

"Game of Thrones" star Sophie Turner takes her turn as the powerful mutant Jean Grey in this year's hotly anticipated "X-Men: Apocalypse." The 20-year-old rising star takes over the role from "The Wolverine" actress Famke Janssen, who played the iconic Marvel Comics character in previous "X-Men" films.

Turner is just one of many new recruits to the "Apocalypse" cast, which features younger versions of the "X-Men" mutants and is set several years after the events in "X-Men: Days of Future Past" (2014).

According to Janssen, she's excited to see the upcoming "Apocalypse" and is not at all surprised to see a different actress play her part, as showing younger and older versions of the same character is something the "X-Men" film franchise has been doing for years. The actress did, however, note that there is a major difference between how male and female characters age in the film series.

"[With women], it's interesting because they're replaced, and the older versions – or more mature, whatever the politically correct version of that is – are never to be seen again," she told Entertainment Weekly. "Whereas the men are allowed to be both ages. Sexism. I think that I should be back along with my younger version and the way that we've seen it with Magneto and Professor X."

As Janssen told EW, she has pitched the idea of reprising her role as an older Jean Grey to the "X-Men" producers, but has yet to hear anything from them.

Meanwhile, Tye Sheridan, who plays a younger Scott Summers/Cyclops in "Apocalypse," recently praised "X-Men" actor James Marsden's portrayal of the Marvel superhero. While promoting his upcoming film "Detour," Sheridan told Den of Geek, "It's such an honor to play a younger version of James Marsden and it's going to be hard to live up to what he created in the X-Men universe."

Sheridan takes on the role of Cyclops from Marsden, who portrayed Cyclops and appeared alongside Janssen in "X-Men" (2000), "X2: X-Men United" (2003), "X-Men: The Last Stand" (2006), and "X-Men: Days of Future Past" (2014).

"X-Men: Apocalypse" drops May 27.
