'X-Men Apocalypse' News, Update: 'Star Wars Episode 7' Actor Oscar Isaac to Play the First Mutant

Actor Oscar Isaac was confirmed to join Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and James McAvoy in the upcoming Bryan Singer film "X-Men; Apocalypse."

The 35-year-old "Inside Llewyn Davis" star will play the titular villain role in the forthcoming X-men sequel, according to Variety. For those who were able to catch it, the character was actually teased right in the end-credits of the film as a blue-skinned child regarded as the "first" mutant.

The news publication further detailed that Fox and director Bryan Singer had actually met several Hollywood names to take up the role. This includes "The Dark Knight Rises" villain actor Tom Hardy.

However, it was the "Bourne Legacy" actor who was picked up as he said to be the studio's "long-time favorite" contender for the role. He will play as Apocalypse, or En Sabah Nur, which is what he is called in the comic book canon.

Isaac, as revealed, will act the scenes out on set with mo-cap. The captured scenes will then be animated during the post-production stage to make his character appear taller, darker, and bluer.

"Isaac seems a little … slight … to play the massive and imposing Apocalypse and it will be curious if Fox and Singer use a variety of tools to help make the character come to life, not unlike what Marvel is doing with James Brolin and Thanos," ScreenCrush reported.

Oscar Isaac is set to appear next year in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." He is also reported to have been contracted to star in "Star Wars: Episode 8."

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will be released by 20th Century Fox on May 27, 2016.
