'X-Men: Apocalypse' Release Date, Plot Spoilers: Director Bryan Singer Teases a Giant Spaceship

Director Bryan Singer recently caused a stir in the social media world earlier this week when he released a brand new concept artwork for his upcoming superhero blockbuster "X-Men: Apocalypse."

"Some production art. #XmenApocalypse #GrantMajor I was a little busy but will continue to snap more," reads the caption of his Instagram post.

The post, meanwhile, featured an image of what appears to be a gigantic space ship looming over a human-like figure standing above the ground.

Meagan Damore of ComicBookResources.com said that although Singer didn't specify any concrete clues about how the giant spaceship could relate to the forthcoming sequel, it is likely believed to be the Ship – "an A.I. entity built by the Celestials that helped En Sabah Nur on his path to becoming Apocalypse," wrote Damore.

"As Ship became more self-aware, Apocalypse put it completely under his own control," the site explained.

Cinema Blend, who later picked up the story, also said that the photo could also pertain to other things.

For one, "Apocalypse" could be introducing new filmstories into the X-Men fiction particularly that of an alien life.

"Instead of being stuck on Earth, the X-Men could take to the stars in future adventures, which would allow the introduction of alien races owned by Fox - like the Shi'ar Empire," the site indicated.

However, if the superhero fiction isn't yet ready to delve in with powerful celestial beings, the picture could also suggest that something from the future is coming back to the present timeline.

"As seen in X-Men: Days of Future Past, within the world of the franchise it's possible to send someone consciousness back in time, so perhaps hundreds or thousands of years in the future, it's become possible to send physical objects in a similar way. Maybe this vessel ends up in ancient Egypt, and En Sabah Nur comes across it, creating a cyclical timeline where a piece of future technology results in the most powerful mutant of all time coming to power," Cinema Blend reported.

Questions will eventually be answered when "X-Men: Apocalypse" opens in theaters this May 27, 2016.
