'X-Men' TV Series on Fox Network: 'We're Hopeful to Announce Something Soon' - Fox

The Fox Television Group is currently in the middle of negotiations with Marvel to develop a live-action TV series about the "X-Men." Fox shared some updates during the recently concluded Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills.

"[For] X-Men, we're in negotiations with Marvel. We're hopeful we'll be able to announce something soon. We're not closed on a deal yet, but it's something we're definitely pursuing," said Dana Walden, the Fox TV Group chairman and CEO.

Walden also addressed a possible conflict with Marvel, which is connected with ABC and Disney.

"The characters from the X-Men franchise are with Fox on the feature [films] side, so we won't be including Marvel characters that are at ABC with Disney," she continued. "This will be exclusively the franchise as it has existed at Fox."

Twentieth Century Fox, which is Fox TV's studio counterpart, owns the feature film rights to the "X-Men" series. Fox already has released seven feature films of the film franchise and is currently working on "Gambit" with Channing Tatum. ABC on the other hand has current TV series that feature Marvel characters, namely "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and "Agent Carter," as well as five series currently in development.

Should the series push through on Fox, The Hollywood Reporter story said that it will be written by Patrick McKay and John D. Payne. They will be acknowledged with a "created by" by line together with Evan Katz and Manny Coto, who in turn will be the showrunners.

The series is being envisioned by Fox as a "long-running series" which can span several seasons if it is successful, as opposed to being a limited event series, like how it developed the reboot of "24," "X-Files" and the upcoming "Prison Break."
