Xbox One Backwards Compatibility News: 'Red Dead Redemption' Being Tested, Leak was an Error

Some Xbox One players were able to download "Red Dead Redemption" and a couple of other titles during the weekend. However, Microsoft's Larry Hryb, a.k.a. Major Nelson, has confirmed that "Red Dead Redemption" is still under testing and the leak was due to an error.

"Microsoft tests all Xbox 360 games with our emulator to ensure a quality experience across a breadth of titles. Due to an error, some of the games currently in test were accidentally made available," Major Nelson said. "We have since removed access to those games, and apologize for any confusion this may have caused. We will have more information on upcoming releases soon."

On Saturday, a NeoGAF user spotted "Red Dead Redemption" listed on the game list of an Xbox Live user. Xbox One users who were able to download the game reported mixed reviews, with some saying the title from developer Rockstar Games worked smoothly while others experienced bugs.

At least two other titles were also available to download over the weekend. These are Konami's "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night" and Bandai Namco's "Tekken Tag Tournament 2."

Many thought the popular title is part of the first batch of games released under Microsoft's new schedule. The company had said previously that it will be releasing titles as they become available.

However, checking the official list of Xbox One-compatible titles confirms "Red Dead Redemption," "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night," Bandai Namco's "Tekken Tag Tournament 2" are not currently under the program.

The latest addition to Microsoft's Xbox One Compatibility program are the 10 titles it released last month. Prior to that, the company released 16 titles in December and 104 titles during launch in November.

The community's positive response to the leak isn't surprising, though, given that "Red Dead Redemption" ranks third in the top 10 list of titles Xbox One players would most like to play on their console. In addition to the leaked titles, Microsoft is currently working on bringing "Call of Duty: Black Ops," "Skate 3," "BioShock," "BioShock 2," "BioShock Infinite," and "Halo Wars" to the Xbox One Backward Compatibility program.
