Xbox One TV to Add to Spielberg-Directed Halo Series and Football Package

Microsoft is looking to develop TV projects for the Xbox One, and has even partnered with Steven Spielberg to create a Halo game series.

Microsoft Studios Vice President Phil Spencer recently said in an interview that the company was very close to securing more deals as far as programming goes. He also revealed there will be Xbox One content for their TV that is not related to any of the games at all.

"They have literally hundreds of ideas that they are incubating right now," Spencer said. "We will have some new announcement for TV shows coming pretty soon."

The Xbox One also has a partnership with the NFL that they have showcased in several commercials as well. They recently came under fire for those commercials because it failed to show any game play.

The commercial showed how the console interacts with Fantasy Football and the ability to make highlights from different games.

The commercial was certainly marketing savvy as the ad ran during the first football game of the year, but it failed to show first and foremost the product- a video game console.

Other recent news for the Xbox One concerns whether the system would ever be backwards compatible.

"That's one of the things that makes [the cloud] at the same time both totally interesting and hard to describe to people. Because what the cloud can do is sort of hard to pin … Using our Azure cloud servers, sometimes it's things like voice processing. It could be more complicated things like rendering full games like a Gaikai and delivering it to the box. We just have to figure out how, over time, how much does that cost to deliver, how good is the experience," Microsoft Senior Director Albert Penello said to Gamespot when asked about old games being on a cloud service.

"The power of the cloud brings many possibilities on Xbox One. Albert was speaking theoretically about backwards compatibility as an example of the features the cloud could enable in the future," clarified Microsoft in a follow up statement.
