XCOM 2 Viper Release Date: More Agents, Aliens and Dangers

XCOM, one of the award-winning strategy games in recent years, will be having another sequel that was announced at the E3 last month.

In the short gameplay video that was showcased in the event, XCOM 2 follows on the happenings of the most recent installment. Unfortunately, the aliens succeeded in overtaking the world, and humankind is now cooperating with their "efforts" for maintaining peace.

The Advent, the governing body controlled by the aliens, will be the primary enemy of the now underground XCOM squad. Unlike the previous XCOM where the team is funded by countries all over the globe, the squad in XCOM 2 functions like a rogue group, similar to what EXALT was during the Enemy Within expansion.

For players of the most recent XCOM that showcased intense gameplay and tactics (and save-scumming), the upcoming XCOM 2 will showcase the team reportedly aiming to carry out its plans against Advent as stealthily as possible. Unfortunately, stealth tactics would soon fail once enemies begin to notice your presence.

Aside from the more superior Advent and the underground XCOM squad, there are also some new features like a new soldier who can control mechanical turrets in the field. Maps still look good, and the press event claims that besides strategic team play, there are also individual strategies that players should carry out properly in order to succeed in each mission.

In addition, there is also another alien enemy called Viper, which has become popular on social media right after the event. It is pretty deadly up close, though in the gameplay it was easily slashed in half.

The bigger aliens were also showcased, and they certainly added action and excitement in the video.

However, for seasoned XCOM players, one of the more important new features of the game is the ability of soldiers to carry unconscious or wounded companions.

XCOM 2 will reportedly hit PCs and Macs in the coming months.
