'Xena: Warrior Princess' Reboot Advocate Lucy Lawless Says It's Too Hard for Her to Play Lead Role Again
The possibility of a "Xena: Warrior Princess" reboot project is currently in the news. The show, which was a spin-off of the TV series "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys," is a highly-anticipated for a revival. One of the most enthused people in the plan is its lead cast, Lucy Lawless.
Lawless appeared previously during the recent Comic-Con International panel for Starz's "Ash vs. Evil Dead." She said during the event that she's "been pitching that show because there's a swell of interest still."
"I'm always being peppered with questions [about] when the Xena movie is coming. Guys, I'm pitching my ass off to make it happen, whether it's with me or not," the actress said.
Just recently, the 47-year-old "Spartacus" star showed up on Friday's Television Critics Association semi-annual press tour where she offered updates on the reboot's development.
"If there's anything current going on, we're not involved — we being me, Rob [Tapert and] Sam [Raimi]," she told Entertainment Weekly. "But [NBC] could be doing it without us; they have the right to, don't they? … I'd love to see it happen and I know that NBC wants to do it, but they're just trying to find a way and a time."
The questions expectedly segued to the possibility of her taking a role in the purported show or perhaps returning as the titular Amazon warrior herself.
"I really couldn't live that life. I look back, I've got all sort of wear and tear from that lifestyle. That's just what happens to human bodies when they get used a certain way a lot. I actually couldn't do it. I'm 47, but there's somebody great out there."
