Xiaomi News 2015: Former Google Exec Hugo Barra Says Xiaomi Won't Enter US Market Anytime Soon

Xiaomi may be the most popular smartphone brand in China today, and it is constantly expanding its horizons in Southeast and South Asia. However, it looks like the manufacturer won't be able to penetrate the U.S. market anytime soon.

According to a recent report by GSM Arena, former Google executive and now Xiaomi Vice President Hugo Barra stated in an interview that Xiaomi won't enter the U.S. mobile market in the coming months.

To be specific, Barra stated that Xiaomi is still a year away from officially releasing smartphones in the U.S.

In the report, the Xiaomi VP said that there are a lot of complicated things that the company should consider before attempting to expand in the biggest Western market worldwide. Some of the things he mentioned include certifications, legalities, shipping, and customer support issues.

Fortunately, the report mentioned that Barra seemed optimistic of Xiaomi's official launch in the U.S. for its smartphones.

Currently, the Chinese manufacturer has a physical store in California where it sells some smartphone accessories and other consumer electronics.

Earlier this year, the phone maker unleashed two high-end devices, but both devices have only been made available in China and Taiwan. Not even its Asian neighbours are getting special treatment as far as Xiaomi devices and products are concerned.
