Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Specs, Price: New Android Midranger Sells Record-Breaking 800K Units in 12 hours

Launched just a week ago, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is definitely a looker not only in terms of design, specs, but also price. Based on the announcement, the Android-powered handset's pricing starts at about CNY 800 or about $152, which is incredibly cheap for a smartphone of its caliber.

A recent report just proved how popular the device has been to the Chinese market.

According to GSM Arena, the Redmi Note 2 managed to sell more than 800,000 units in a flash sale that only lasted for 12 hours. In case you are wondering whether this number pertains to pre-registrations or units sold, it is the latter.

Several manufacturers have already followed the same sales method, but most of them only manage a few thousand units sold. However, the Chinese manufacturer definitely captured the hearts of its Xiaomi and Android fans from all over China.

In the report, the flash sale went live on Sunday, and lasted for only 12 hours, yet the reception for the newest Android smartphone from Xiaomi was very warm.

So what does the Redmi Note 2 have to offer? The device packs a 5.5-inch display with a Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, there is a 2GB of RAM, a MediaTek Helio X10 SoC, an octa-core CPU, and a 16GB of built-in memory.

In addition, the device boasts a 13MP primary camera and a 5MP selfie shooter, dual-SIM support, a 3,020mAh battery, and Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, skinned by Xiaomi's very own MIUI 7.

The device currently comes in three versions - the 16GB version has a dual 4G LTE SIM Support (CNY 899) and a 4G/3G dual-SIM feature (CNY 799), and then there is the 32GB model (CNY 999).

In the report, the next flash sale for the Redmi Note 2 will kick off on Aug. 24.
