'Yooka-Laylee' Release Date, News and Updates: 'Yooka-Laylee' to Come with Boxed Copy? Upcoming Game Confirmed for 2017 Release

The upcoming action adventure video game "Yooka-Laylee" has long reached its crowdfunding goals. With its looming release date, fans have been clamoring for a physical copy of the game, but will the developers finally give in to this outcry?

Kickstarter Campaign

"Yooka-Laylee" is considered the spiritual successor to "Banjo-Kazooie". With it, developer Playtonic Games is hoping for the game to receive a similar reception for the new video game. And it did. At its time of announcement last May 2015, "Yooka-Laylee" has become the first video game in Kickstarter to have reached a crowdfunding of $1 million.

2015 may seem a long time ago for those who are eagerly waiting for the game. Fear not, though, for Playtonic Games has reassured the backers of "Yooka-Laylee" that the development and release timelines of the game are still on track. However, these are not the only things fans are clamoring for. They are also asking for a physical copy of "Yooka-Laylee".

Physical Copy

Previously announced as a digital-only title, "Yooka-Laylee" has been the subject of online discourse since its announcement. As many Kickstarter video game campaigns go, the developers have been keen on what the backers have to say. This time though, fans are requesting for a boxed copy of the game.

However, Playtonic Games have remained mum on the issue. Without an outright denial that having physical discs of "Yooka-Laylee" is a possibility, fans remain hopeful of its likelihood. Just recently, the developers have issued a statement.

Playtonic Games has stated that the company is actually delighted to be able to offer "Yooka-Laylee" in both digital and boxed formats. This would still be in time for the set release date. In fact, at the time that the statement was released, the developers' business people are working on a way to allow the Kickstarter backers to upgrade to a physical version if they wish to do so.

No other details and specifics were given by Playtonic Games regarding the physical version of "Yooka-Laylee." However, the statement made many fans delighted as having an actual disc for the game is far better than only having a digital copy.

Release and Other Details

Playtonic Games had just recently released a new trailer for "Yooka-Laylee". It features a cameo from Shovel Knight, together with some main cast members. Fans of "Banjo-Kazooie" have high expectations for the new 3D platform game, as the original game was a huge success.

"Yooka-Laylee" is set to be released at the first quarter of 2017. It will be playable through the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Wii U, and PC.
