Following the June unveiling, there have been eight separate "Developer Previews" downloads made available for licensed developers ahead of the Gold Master version. On Sept. 30, the company also asked the developers to submit Yosemite-compatible apps to the App Store ahead of the software's public release.

As also pointed out by the publication, the OS X Yosemite is expected to be publicly seeded on Thursday, Oct. 26. They also added that the date will follow the launching event for Apple's newest iPads and new Retina iMacs.

Feature-wise, the new OS now emphasize "translucency," streamlined toolbars, and smarter controls.

The Spotlight search will now behave more like a search engine as it will give off new data searches including that from Wikipedia, Maps, movie listings, news, and many more sources.

The Mail Drop feature is also a highlight in the update. It allows users to easily send and receive attachments up to 5GB in size via iCloud. The Markup feature is also worth noting as it enables users to make Skitch-style annotations to images and other documents right from within the mail.

The Safari in the latest Yosemite is also said to have an improved Nitro JavaScript engine that makes it even faster but more energy-efficient than ever.

These are just some of the mentioned highlights of the highly-anticipated OS X Yosemite operating system. Stay tuned for more updates.
