Your First Christmas

What if this was the Christmas you began to doubt your doubts, and instead, began to place confidence in the One who became the babe of Bethlehem? After all, what have your doubts ever done for you? Did your doubts come to earth to die for your sins and be your Savior? Are your doubts able to take you to heaven when you die?

Consider the irony of people trusting in their doubts to save them from anything supernatural or eternal. "I will not believe in the Christ of Christmas or Easter, but I will place complete confidence and faith in my doubts." Go figure. What doubter in your life convinced you to go down that path, while millions of others were led down the path of faith in the Prince of Peace?

"God has set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end." (Ecclesiastes 3:11) When you were a child, you probably believed that you were going to exist somewhere forever. Then a doubter got ahold of you. Bah humbug! It was all downhill doubting from there.

Would you like to have the faith of a child once again? Would you like to receive an everlasting gift this Christmas that guarantees your place in a wonderful world of eternal pleasure, praise, and joy?

C. S. Lewis wrote, “We are very shy nowadays of even mentioning heaven. We are afraid of the jeer about ‘pie in the sky', and of being told that we are trying to ‘escape’ from the duty of making a happy world here and now into dreams of a happy world elsewhere. But either there is ‘pie in the sky’ or there is not. If there is not, then Christianity is false, for this doctrine is woven into its whole fabric."

What if this was the Christmas you began to doubt your doubts, and instead, placed your faith in the King of Kings? There are no do-overs after your soul leaves your earthly body at the moment of your death. God placed the gift of eternal life under the tree of Calvary where Jesus died, and the gift has your name on it. Whether you open the gift, or decide to leave it under the tree is up to you.

If you are an unbeliever, you may have no idea why Christians get so excited about Christmas and the birth of Jesus Christ. It's all foreign to you, but it doesn't have to remain that way. It's like you are standing outside in the cold looking through the window into a living room. A family is having a great time exchanging Christmas presents by the fireplace and the Christmas tree. Why not come inside and get warm? God will begin to light a fire in your heart the moment you come in and place your faith in Jesus Christ. Until then, all you can do is wonder why so many others are bowing down before the King in such adoration and praise.

Who knows....this could become your first real Christmas. Are you ready for a change, or too stuck in your ways and deceived by your doubts to even consider the Christ of Christmas? Gifts shared between family members are not what make Christmas so special. It is special in a supernatural and eternal way because of the gift that God gave to you and to me. He took centuries to wrap it and place it under the tree. What a tragedy that so many people live and die without ever realizing what Jesus died to give them. Are you willing to be a repentant believer and a gracious receiver? You won't regret it if you make that decision this Christmas.

Jesus left heaven and came to earth so that you could one day leave earth and go to heaven. After His birth, death, and resurrection, the Lord said to Thomas: "Stop doubting and believe." (John 20:27) The Christmas message is good news of great joy for all the people, (Luke 2:10) and it is easier to believe than you think! In fact, it is just as easy as opening a Christmas present right there in your home! You take ahold of it....you unwrap it, and then you enjoy it. If you forgot how to do that, just ask a child.
