Your Prayers Are Heard
Jesus offered up prayers and supplications . . . to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard. (Hebrews 5:7 NIV)
When you visit present-day Gethsemane you cannot help but wonder if you are standing on the very ground where Jesus knelt and prayed, "Abba, Father, for you all things are possible; remove this cup from me . . ." (Mark 14:36). There in the blue shadows, amid the gnarled trees, "Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death . . ."
"And he was heard." Jesus was not saved from death. The cup was not removed. Yet his prayer was heard. His cry did not fall on deaf ears.

Let this truth percolate into your head: while our prayers may not always be granted, they are always heard. Jesus said, "Father . . . I knew that you always hear me" (John 11:42). Perhaps what we ask for in prayer is not God's perfect will for us. Perhaps our requests are unwise, and if granted they would cause us pain and heartache. But we are always heard.
Secure in the knowledge that our prayers are heard, we can be sure in every time of darkness and confusion that God is leading us still, and that in every time of pain and sorrow God is loving us still.
