Your Will Be Done

"Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."(Matthew 6:10)

In the Lord's Prayer, we are taught to pray, "Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." Don't ever be afraid to pray this, because it is an acknowledgement that we don't have all of the answers. And it is an acknowledgement that we just might be praying for the wrong thing.

Suppose God appeared to you this afternoon and said, "I will give you anything you want. You pray for it, and it's yours." What would you pray for? This opportunity was given to King Solomon after he began to rule in the place of his father David. So he asked the Lord for wisdom to rule His people (see 1 Kings 3:5–9). That is a perfect example of a man who had his priorities in order, a man who essentially said, "Your will be done."

If God were to appear to you today and say, "What do you want?" the best response would be, "Lord, whatever You want for me, that is what I want. Whatever You already have planned for me . . . that is what I want. I might have an idea right now of what I think I need, but Lord, Your kingdom come, Your will be done."

Never be afraid to ask for the will of God. Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God. He has your best interests at heart.
