Zambia Church, NGOs Told to Help Needy

COMMUNITY Development Minister Marina Nsingo has urged the church and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to provide necessities to the needy on a sustainable basis.

Ms Nsingo who was speaking yesterday at the Chilanga mission Seventh Day Adventist needy's day said provision of necessities to the needy was not a one time off thing.

She said there was need for Government and stakeholders to put their heads together because necessities had to be provided on a sustainable basis for people to survive.

"My department of social welfare is available to discuss with you on ways and means of providing assistance to the needy on a sustainable basis," she said.

She appealed to the SDA director of community services to come up with proposals such as construction of a community service centre for the needy.

And ministerial director of Zambia Union Mission of SDA church Joe Lubasi said the church wanted to meet the spiritual and physical needs of the people.

Pastor Lubasi said the strength of the nation is measured by how it takes care of the vulnerable and the needy in society.

"I urge all church organs to learn from Jesus Christ, the greatest community worker in scriptures so that we can teach what he taught and do what he did," he said.
