Zelda Wii U Release Date, Gameplay Rumors: Link's World to Be Much Different

Nintendo's much-awaited "The Legend of Zelda" for Wii U has been one of the most talked-about titles in the gaming world. It gained more traction following its unveiling during the E3 Nintendo Digital Event. Now fans are hankering for more updates about the beloved game. Here's the latest that we've heard.

It was previously assumed that the game's Wii U version will feature a much "broader, open world" reminiscent to that open-world titles like 'The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" and "Grand Theft Auto V" where players can "randomly roam along the countryside" and encounter "randomized activities."

Contrary to what many have expected, it won't be so. Series producer Eiji Aonuma gave light to some of the speculations circulating about what Link's world will be about.

"Since we're talking about open worlds, let's state upfront that we don't plan to have an open world in the same way other companies have been doing in recent years," Aonuma told Edge Magazine. Currently only Nintendo knows the playing style of the game.

Game Revolution suggested that Nintendo could look to earlier titles for the scale of the environment.

"Perhaps we'll see an open world more akin to the original The Legend of Zelda or even the recent 3DS title A Link Between Worlds," the publication wrote.

"Legend of Zelda" for Wii U is previously slated for a 2015 date during the E3 convention. However, there are rumors that the date will be pushed back for reasons including Nintendo's focus in working with "Hyrule Warriors," "Pokemon" and "Super Smash Bros."
