ZTE Axon Elite launched in IFA, features three biometrics

In a sea of popular and leading smartphone brands, a less known brand is making its wave to the technology realm. Just recently, ZTE launched the global version of their Axon smartphone called the ZTE Axon Elite during the IFA 2015 consumer electronics trade show.

Released first in the US, the global version will be sent out to other international markets, reports NDTV. It will be shipped to France, Germany, Italy, Spain and United Kingdom on Sept. 24 while Turkey, Mexico, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Russia and the Philippines would get the handset at a later date.

According to MNR Daily, Axon Elite isn't far different from its Chinese variant, the Axon Lux, which was released earlier in China. The only notable difference is the slight changes in display and memory. The Axon Elite is also designed slightly different with the upper portion of the rear section looking more curved and the lower section sporting a "skin effect."

The Axon Elite also comes with similar specifications of its US variant called the Axon Pro. The only difference is that the Elite version has a lower full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) resolution display and it comes with three biometric authentication methods which are fingerprint, voice and eye scanning sensors. This high-tech feature is not available in the ZTE Axon.

According to a hands-on review by Digital Trends, the fingerprint sensor is conveniently positioned below the camera lens on the rear of phone, which allows the hand or finger to fall on it instantly. The voice lock system can work with two key words. The user can either say, "phone unlock," or try the iconic "open sesame." The eye-scanning will take some time getting used to because it's a new feature and rare one in smartphones. The phone will need to be held relatively close to the face and up at eye-level.

The source mentioned that the Axon Elite is the first smartphone to carry all three biometric security methods at once. It will cost 419.99 Euros in the UK. Details for the other countries will follow.
