• Ministry Celebrates 10 Years of Sharing Message of Love to Struggling Gays

By Katherine T. Phan on October 30,2008

A one-day conference on homosexuality that offers a message of hope that change is possible recently celebrated its 10th year and may broadcast its anniversary celebration globally in the near future.

During the past decade, Focus on the Family estimated that over 50,000 have attended its Love Won Out Conference geared toward those who struggle with unwanted same-sex attraction. If Christian network God TV, which offered to film the 10th anniversary conference, does broadcast the event as planned, Focus will reach over 125 million homes across the U.S., Europe, Africa and Asia.

“The platform God TV provides us is a dream come true and an answered prayer,” commented Melissa Fryrear, director of Focus' gender issues department. more >>

  • Palin Puts Nov. 4 Election in God's Hands

By Eric Gorski on October 24,2008

DENVER – Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin describes herself as a "hard-core pro-lifer" and expresses confidence that in spite of disheartening polls, "putting this in God's hands, that the right thing for America will be done at the end of the day on Nov. 4."

In an interview with evangelical leader James Dobson that aired Wednesday, Palin said she thought Republican presidential candidate John McCain would implement the GOP platform if elected — "I do, from the bottom of my heart" — but McCain doesn't support the platform on three issues important to evangelicals: abortion, gay marriage and embryonic stem cell research.

The platform calls for a constitutional ban on gay marriage, an issue McCain says should be left to individual states. Similarly, the platform seeks a constitutional ban on all abortions; again, McCain supports allowing states to decide the question. McCain supports research using embryonic stem cells, which the platform opposes. more >>

  • Archbishop Criticizes Obama, Catholic Allies

By Eric Gorski on October 19,2008

DENVER (AP) – Denver Roman Catholic Archbishop Charles Chaput labeled Barack Obama the "most committed" abortion-rights candidate from a major party in 35 years while accusing a Catholic Obama ally and other Democratic-friendly Catholic groups of doing a "disservice to the church."

Chaput, one of the nation's most politically outspoken Catholic prelates, delivered the remarks Friday night at a dinner of a Catholic women's group.

His comments were among the sharpest in a debate over abortion and Catholic political responsibility in a campaign in which Catholics represent a key swing vote. more >>

  • Supporters of Life Begins at Conception Measure Face Uphill Battle

By Kristen Wyatt on October 13,2008

LA JUNTA, Colo. - Those who hope Colorado becomes the first state where voters say life begins at conception are facing resistance from a seemingly unexpected place: The Roman Catholic Church and anti-abortion activists.

The amendment would change the state constitution to say that the word, "person," "shall include any human being from the moment of fertilization," with all the constitutional rights that confers.

The change wouldn't immediately outlaw abortion in Colorado. But it would set up legal battles that backers and opponents say would compel judicial reviews of federally guaranteed abortion rights. more >>

  • Dobson Gives Green Light to GOP Ticket Ahead of Debate

By Jennifer Riley on October 07,2008

Formerly reluctant John McCain supporter Dr. James Dobson has done away with his reservations and called on his millions of evangelical listeners Monday to vote for the GOP ticket – just a day ahead of the second presidential debate.

“It’s probably obvious which of the two major candidates’ views are most palatable to those of us who embrace a pro-life, pro-family worldview,” said Dobson, founder and chairman of Focus on the Family Action, on his radio broadcast.

“While I will not endorse either candidate this year, (in fact, I’ve only endorsed one presidential nominee in my life) I can say that I am very supportive of Senator John McCain and his bid for the presidency.” more >>
