Fla. Congressman Stands Against Ground Zero Mosque in 9/11-Themed Conference

WASHINGTON – While religious leaders are urging Christians to love their Muslim neighbors as the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks draw near, Florida Congressman Allen West (R) and the Christian Action Network reminded the public that there is still continued opposition to the New York City Islamic center being built near ground zero.
Surrounded by the families of seven 9/11 victims, West spoke against the mosque and Islamic center being erected near the site of the fallen twin towers in a Wednesday press conference.
Comparing the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon to the Pearl Harbor bombing, West said no one who attacked the United States should be allowed to put a victory monument to their people at an attack site. more >>

Washington Monument Crack: A Sign to Believers 'First and Foremost'

Were the cracks in the Washington Monument really a sign from God?
If it was, one professor believes that just as much as it was a warning to unbelievers, it was equally, if not more, a message to believers and the church today.
Responding to televangelist Pat Robertson’s end time theories posed last week surrounding the cracks in the long-standing monument, Professor Robert Crosby delved further into the suggestion, which has been criticized and ridiculed by many. more >>
As King Memorial Opens, Christian Leaders Recall His 'Dream'

The life and mission of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. embedded itself into the fabric of American life and without question, had the greatest impact in advancing rights for minorities in the latter half of the 20th century. His works and accomplishments are being recognized with a national monument in his honor in Washington, D.C. that opened Monday.
African-American pastor and High Impact Leadership Coalition founder Bishop Harry Jackson Jr. said of the King monument, "As a Christian, I am really excited. Such a memorial shows the power of an individual life and the power of prayer."
Jackson, who says he was 11 or 12 at the time of the 1963 "I Have a Dream" speech, prayerfully watched the march with his father in their hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. more >>
Poverty Activists to Protest Outside White House Over Obama's 'Lavish' Vacation
A Christian minister and activist wants to send a message to President Barack Obama while he and his family are vacationing at Martha's Vineyard this week: remember the nation's poor and needy.
The Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, director of the Christian Defense Coalition, plans to hold a demonstration on Thursday, Aug. 25, in front of the White House to protest what he sees as an "irresponsible" decision by Obama to leave Washington, D.C. while the nation is in turmoil.
"It's clearly irresponsible and sends the exact wrong message when we are struggling with these hard economic times...and it shows a profound disrespect for the poor and for the struggling for the president to take this incredibly expensive vacation," Mahoney told The Christian Post Thursday. more >>
