Bernice King Leaving Eddie Long's Megachurch to Start New Ministry
Bernice King confirmed during a radio program Tuesday that she is leaving Bishop Eddie Long's New Birth Missionary Baptist Church after more than eight years as a member. King said her decision to leave comes as she pursues a new assignment from God.
Speaking to Praise 102.5, King said she served her last day as an elder and member of Long's Atlanta megachurch this past Sunday. She also clarified that she didn't "resign" from any position since she was never employed by New Birth.

Bernice King, the daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., has left her position as an elder of Bishop Eddie Long's New Birth Missionary Baptist Church just days after a settlement had been reached in the sexual misconduct case against the pastor.
The news was first reported by WSB TV, which runs Channel Action 2 News, Monday.

All lawsuits brought by four young men alleging Bishop Eddie Long of sexual misconduct were officially dismissed "with prejudice" Friday, one day after both sides announced that a settlement had been reached out of court.
Documents confirming the dismissal of Long's case were filed Friday in DeKalb County State Court in Georgia. The four suits were "dismissed with prejudice," meaning the plaintffs in the case are barred from ever bringing the same charges against Long again.
The official status of the lawsuits, all filed in September 2010, is now "closed," according to the court's website. more >>
Bishop Eddie Long Reaches Settlement Out of Court
Atlanta megachurch pastor Bishop Eddie Long has reached a settlement out of court with the four young men who accused him of sexual misconduct, lawyers for both sides of the case said Thursday. Eddie Long was accused last year of coercing four men he mentored into sexual relationships.
Both sides of the case would not comment on the details of the settlement but said the lawsuit would not move forward to trial.
