  • Episcopal Head Urges Church to Enter 'Real' Conversation

By Lillian Kwon on June 21,2007

Disputing the issue over homosexuality has not been productive for the church, said the head of The Episcopal Church. But being open to conversation is vital, she added.

Episcopal Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori wrapped up a three-day, 15-town marathon tour of western Kansas Wednesday. While The Episcopal Church faces a growing exodus of parishes that believe the U.S. Anglican arm has departed from Christian orthodoxy, Episcopalians numbering from 10 to 220 at churches in the Diocese of Western Kansas welcomed Jefferts Schori, who they say has not sugar-coated difficult subjects.

"It is what is," said Jefferts Schori, responding to a question about gay bishop V. Gene Robinson of New Hampshire whose consecration in 2003 widened divisions in The Episcopal Church and the global Anglican Communion. more >>

  • Mark Schultz Donates Concert Proceeds to Tornado Torn Town

By Kevin Jackson on June 08,2007

Platinum-selling Christian solo artist Mark Schultz is continuing on his Across America Bike Tour and recently made a stop in a town in his home state of Kansas that was devastated by an F5 Tornado.

While visiting Greensburg, Kan., Schultz threw a benefit concert on May 31 at the Dodge City Civic Center, giving 100 percent of the proceeds to help rebuild the town where the destructive storm swept through on May 4.

“This morning we went to Greensburg and one thing I’m reminded of is that we’re here for one reason, and that is to lift up those folks who went through that,” said Schultz at his concert on May 31. “It reminded me of the gospel as I walked through there because God is about redemption and He’s about bringing about newness. I saw something in my own heart, and thought, ‘this town looks like the way my heart feels sometimes.’” more >>

  • Mark Schultz to Visit Boyhood Adoption Agency Amid Charity Bike Tour

By Kevin Jackson on May 31,2007

Mark Schultz is forging ahead on his "Across America" bike tour to raise money for orphans and widows, racking up 1,287 miles and $75,000 for charity.

Next week, on June 8, the Dove award-winning artist will make a special appearance at The Kansas Children’s Service League (the League), headquartered in Wichita, Kan., to help raise awareness about the more than 900 orphans in the state. The local Kansas adoption agency also happens to be the place that Schultz himself was adopted from.

“This was something that I immediately knew I needed to do,” expressed Schultz, in a statement. “If it wasn’t for the caring people at this amazing organization, I don’t know where I would be today. May is National Foster Care Month, and I want to encourage families to consider making a lifetime of difference for the most vulnerable in our communities, the young lives of children.” more >>
