The largest Presbyterian denomination in the United States released a statement Tuesday demanding that President Barack Obama push Israel and Hamas towards negotiating a ceasefire immediately.
"The situation is escalating beyond control. The bloodshed and wielding of power in the contested land is unconscionable," reads the statement from the Presbyterian Church (USA) Office of the General Assembly."Just as the United States has moved swiftly to provide $47 million in humanitarian assistance to Gaza, America also must lead the way in insisting on a ceasefire and enabling negotiations."
The statement also said that the PCUSA leaders "urge President Obama to use all the diplomatic weight afforded the highest office of this nation to end this conflict, and support all steps toward lasting peace in the Middle East." more >>
No certainty exists over the fate of an amendment brought before the regional bodies of Presbyterian Church (USA) that would redefine the denomination's marriage definition to include same-sex unions.
Last month, the largest Presbyterian denomination in the country voted in favor of a recommendation to change the official definition of marriage in the Book of Order from "a man and a woman" to "two people, traditionally a man and a woman."
Toya Richards, spokeswoman of the PC (USA) Office of the General Assembly, told The Christian Post that "we can't speculate on that." more >>
John MacArthur, author and pastor of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California recently equated churches that declare support for gay marriage are "Satan's church."
"They have no allegiance to the Bible," said MacArthur, in comments reported by The Blaze earlier this week.
"You go back to every one of those seminaries … for a century [they] have been deniers of biblical authority, they have no relationship to scripture, they are the apostate church, they are Satan's church." more >>
The church in drag is here. Not content in some quarters with God's design, she seeks a gender change to become an artificial creation of man's vain imagination. But it's not a good look.
The progressive Christian bandwagon has a rainbow flag, men in pink feather boas, and Democratic Party politicians. And as certain apostate churches jump on, I think Jesus might be jumping off.
The Presbyterian Church USA is now fully on board with same-sex "marriages," a decision made at its recent meeting in Detroit. This wayward group already embraced homosexual clergy several years back. The recent General Assembly meeting also voted down defending babies born alive in spite of attempted abortion-i.e., this denomination is in the same camp as convicted murderer Kermit Gosnell. more >>
The largest Presbyterian denomination in the United States will no longer sell a controversial anti-Zionism publication on its website.
Presbyterian Church (USA) announced last Friday that it will immediately halt the online sale of "Zionism Unsettled", a publication produced by the Church's Israel-Palestine Mission Network.
A representative from PC (USA) told The Christian Post that the two members of their leadership who could comment were not available. Instead, CP was directed to an online statement from PC (USA)'s Presbyterian Mission Agency. more >>
Last week's 310 to 303 vote by the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) General Assembly to "selectively divest" from companies that it claims "further the Israeli occupation in Palestine" reveals an ugly side of a denomination of Christianity that by its own progressive values should be embracing the Jewish state - not condemning it.
But apparently shared values are not important for a religious organization that prides itself on its progressive ideals. On the same day that the church singled out Israel for divestment, it voted to support gay marriage. How ironic, since Israel is the only country in that part of the world that bans discrimination based on sexual orientation – a country which welcomed the U.S. ambassador to fly the gay pride flag under the American flag during last week's Israel Gay Pride festival.
The PCUSA vote effectively condones the brutal treatment of the GLBTQ community at the hands of Palestinians and Israel's Arab neighbors. Remaining silent in the face of such human rights violations, while singling out Israel for measures they take to simply protect Jews, Muslims and Christians in their country, is abhorrent. more >>
