Director Darren Aronofsky's "Noah" has stirred controversy far and wide ahead of its release date in recent weeks, and Pastor Rick Warren is the latest to sound off on the film via Twitter over the weekend.
The Aronofksy-directed drama has caused waves after bridging both secularist views and a desire to appeal to religious audiences, and critics are speculating over how closely or loosely "Noah" will adhere to the Bible- including Pastor Warren. On Sunday, the Saddleback Church founder touched on the upcoming film, but in doing so, he inaccurately quoted Aronofsky.
"Director of new 'Noah' movie calls it 'The LEAST biblical film ever made' then uses F word referring to those wanting Bible-based (entertainment)," Warren wrote to his over one million Twitter users on March 16. more >>
Approaching the 1-year anniversary of the death of her son, Matthew, Kay Warren recently shared her strong feelings about the perhaps well-meaning, but often insensitive comments she's received during the grieving process. Her husband, Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church, says her post, which has since gone viral, resonates with many who have faced a similar situation.
"It struck a nerve with every grieving person who faces well-meaning but clueless reactions from others," posted Rick Warren on his Facebook page on Friday. "In 24 hours, her post has been read by over 1.5 million people, re-posted nearly 9,000 time, and thousands have left affirming 'I get it' comments."
In just the few days since its original posting, Kay Warren's "Don't Tell Grievers to 'Move On'" piece has been re-posted nearly 17,000 times and readership has climbed well over the initial 1.5 million. Pastor Warren urged the readers of his post to "Like" her Facebook page in support then pass her article on to others. more >>
Pastors and Christian leaders throughout the U.S. are jumping on board a campaign to spread the Gospel message via the upcoming film "Son of God" by buying out multiplex cinema screens for the day before its public release on Feb. 28.
"Few movies have been able to take over an entire multiplex – every screen, every seat; only blockbusters like 'Hunger Games.' But now the religious epic 'Son of God' is taking over several multiplexes nationwide on Thursday, February 27, the day before it debuts on 3,000 screens," say the film's promoters.
As of Monday, multiplexes in at least 10 cities nationwide are playing "Son of God" on all of their screens on the evening of Feb. 27. "It's very interesting to see this level of excitement around the movie," stated James Meredith, VP, head of Marketing & Communications for Cinemark. "We've already scheduled a few large-scale theatre buyouts for 'Son of God' in theatres across the country. The interest level for meetings, events, screenings and buyouts seems to be on par with that of major blockbuster, tentpole or franchise movies." more >>
LAKE FOREST, Calif. – Pastor Rick Warren encouraged hundreds of local Southern California pastors and ministry leaders attending a pre-release screening of "Son of God" at Saddleback Church Tuesday to use a six-week study the best-selling author created using scenes from the movie.
The "Son of God – The Life of Jesus in You" series (LifeWay publishers) will launch at Saddleback to coincide with the movie's release. Producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, who were at the special screening, had asked Warren to create the book study with their movie as a tool.
"This is an incredible opportunity to double the size and number of your small [Bible/book study] groups," said Warren after the screening. He explained that the first time he used a movie to launch a series to be used in small groups was with "The Passion of the Christ." Warren said he offered content that was not available anywhere else, and while members of small groups were first attracted to attend by the nature of the content, they stayed in the study groups because of the formed relationships. more >>

People have the ultimate power to change their own thoughts, but in order to so do, one must "feed, focus, and free their minds on a moment by moment basis," preached Rick Warren, founding pastor at Saddleback Church based in Lake Forest, Calif., during last weekend's worship services.
"Satan can't control your thoughts, only you can, and God can't control your thoughts," said Warren during Sunday's sermon. "If you're having bad, scary, guiltily, lonely, depressed and discouraged thoughts, it doesn't help to say, 'God change my thoughts.' God is going to say, 'it's your mind, you do it.'"
