Why is it that so many people do not see Jesus the way Christians see Him? Christ is clear to Christians, but fuzzy to unbelievers. They simply do not see Him as their Savior. But why?
Warren Buffett has publicly referred to Charlie Munger as his partner at Berkshire Hathaway. Like Buffett, Munger is busy giving away much of his fortune to help various institutions and organizations do the work they do. In a recent discussion with the local newspaper here in Omaha, Munger said something incredibly profound. In fact, his comment is right in line with a principle we find throughout the Bible.
When God made you, He gave you a built-in "firewall" to protect you from making destructive decisions. Without this firewall, man is prone to destroy his life and the lives of others by choices that go against God's will. This firewall is known as the human conscience.
The first people God created were a man and a woman; not a baby boy and a baby girl. So also the world was not created as a "baby," but as an "adult." It was brand new at Creation, but that doesn't mean it looked "young."
You have probably noticed the fascination with zombies in American culture today. While zombies are only make-believe, they provide a powerful illustration for the Christian life.
Some Christians know they are going to heaven. Other Christians are pretty sure they are going there. Many unbelievers, meanwhile, assume they are going to heaven, or they simply don't believe that heaven is even a real place. Try asking 20 Christians and 20 unbelievers about their hope for the afterlife. You will start to see the science behind the assurance of salvation. In other words, there is knowledge to be gained through the systematic study of their responses.
The philosophy of religious inclusion flows in a circle. It was crafted at a point in time by an extremely intelligent being, and it always circles back around to its founder. The logical progression of this worldview must ultimately flow back around to the one who dreamt it up.
When the first disciples were called by Christ to follow Him, they left everything behind. It was a drastic decision, but one that was necessary if they were going to follow the Messiah. What about you? Would you leave everything and go with Christ if He came to your door today and called you to join Him?
Do you realize that everyone in your community falls into one of three categories? By using the Old Testament as a way to think about people today, we see that everyone is somewhere between an "Egyptian" and an "Israelite."
So you are not sure whether or not you believe that heaven and hell are real places. OK. Try this. Do you believe that America and North Korea are real places? Start with what you can see. God will help you to believe in what you cannot see.
By now I am sure you have recognized that some people appreciate Jesus, and some people don't. Some people fall at His feet to worship Him, while others tend to view the Savior with curiosity or even contempt. Where do you fall on that spectrum of attitudes toward the Messiah?
It is impossible that Christianity is not God's revelation of truth to man. Simply impossible. The math proves it beyond question. It doesn't take faith to believe that one plus one equals two, and it doesn't take faith to identify the religion which has mathematical certainty in its corner.
Now that 1400 delegates from the Boy Scouts of America have chosen to vote on the issue of homosexuality, it seems like a good time to consider some of the differences between the BSA and Christ's Church. Here are 25 differences between the two groups:
Whenever addressing a topic as misunderstood as this one, it is helpful at the outset to reaffirm the fact that God loves everyone. He loves those who struggle with this or that temptation, as well as those who feel unlovable. "God is love." (1 John 4:8)
It sounds so positive and affirming. After all, everyone deserves to have a ton of self-esteem, right? With all the bullying and other belittling behavior which takes place these days, doesn't it just make sense that we should want all people to hold themselves in high esteem?
Who wouldn't want to sleep in on Sunday morning rather than getting up to go to a church service? Especially after a long and tiring week of work. It makes a lot of sense to sleep in. There would have to be plenty of motivation for someone to get out of bed on the weekend.
What person or what incident caused you to think that God doesn't love you? Who mistreated you? What happened? We can't change the past, but we can choose to think straight today.
It really isn't politically correct these days to talk about Jesus in public, or even to speak about Satan in public. Both figures bring Christianity into the spotlight, which is right where it belongs. Your response to the Christian Gospel will reveal whether you are listening to Jesus, or to Satan. There is no getting around it. Whether you take a public position on the matter or not, you are in one camp or the other. That is because there are only two camps to which souls can belong.
So you are having a hard time wrapping your mind around Christianity. Join the club. Many people have been there, and have since crossed over into the light. They now get it. So what made the difference?
What really happens with prayers to the departed that are prayed everyday by religious people all over the world? Simply put, some prayers which are assumed to be prayers of "intercession" are in reality prayers of "interception." That is, these prayers do not reach the intended "receiver." Instead, they are intercepted by fallen angels. One of the many activities of evil spirits is to encourage religious people to pray to "dead" believers. The Bible does not encourage such a thing, but instead warns against it.
No one in their right mind would ever exchange "peace like a river" for "chaos like a volcano." And yet, that sadly seems to be the daily experience for more and more families today.
When was the last time you watched a little child listening and responding to the comments of a parent? The simplicity of a child's worldview is astounding. Sure they have their moments of rebellion and fussing, but don't we all? Their innocent faith, on the other hand, is something we adults seem to rarely exhibit in our own lives.
No one loves Jesus before he gets converted. No one. That's because only the Holy Spirit dwelling on the inside of you can give you a love for Jesus Christ. It is impossible to have that love without the work of the Spirit. Period.
We all tend to live with certain preconceived notions. Some of our notions have few consequences, while others impact our eternal well-being. You don't want to be wrong about heaven and hell, trust me. There are no "do-overs" once your soul departs your earthly body at the moment of your death.
The city of Boston is like a family in a way, and this family has just been through the ringer. They welcomed a couple of guys into their fold who in turn decided to stab their fellow Bostonians in the back. Dzhokhar and Tamerlan betrayed the very community that had opened their arms to receive them. It seems unbelievable that this could happen, and yet it did.
