Duane "Dog" Chapman

“Dog the Bounty Hunter” star Duane "Dog" Chapman, a former bail bondsman, has made a name for himself on reality TV by being stern and crass, but he's also a mentor to people who are running from the law and want to turn their lives around.

Now a widower after his wife, Beth Chapman, died in July, he revealed in his first interview since her death that his Christian faith is helping him make it through. Chapman also shared the Bible verse he wants read to him before he dies.

“After I’ve seen how she went slow, I said, ‘Lord, I’ve figured it out, I want to go fast. But you got to let someone at least read Genesis 1:1 to me,'" Chapman told "Entertainment Tonight."

That Bible verse says: "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth."

“All my staff have been advised, if something happens to me, I wanna hear Genesis 1:1 so that I know that means to say, 'Lord forgive me' …” he added, explaining that he wants to make sure he’s consecrated before he meets God since his job often brings out his vulgarity.

Chapman also revealed that his wife chose to be cremated rather than buried.

“When I was a little boy all the Christians [said], ‘You can’t get burned because then you can’t rise from the grave with Jesus.’ And I said, ‘Honey, what do you think about that?’ She goes, ‘It’s from ashes to ashes and dust to dust,’” Chapman recounted.

The bounty hunter admitted he’s still processing everything that’s happened in the past few months. He confessed that he still places his wife’s pillow beside him every night and covers it with a blanket, hoping it would be her again.

“Psychiatrists say and the Bible says it too, ‘time heals wounds,’” he added.
