Over 100,000 people converged at Angel Stadium in Southern California this past weekend for the Harvest Crusades, an evangelistic event featuring worship and a message of hope from Pastor Greg Laurie.

Pastor Laurie preached about the assurance of Heaven for those who repent and accept Christ in their hearts.

Over the course of three nights, 8,670 people made professions of faith and were welcomed to the family of God.

— ‘Overcomer’ no. 3 at box office

“Overcomer” had a strong opening weekend, grossing over $8.2 million to make it no. 3 at the box office.

The faith-based film is directed and produced by the Kendrick brothers, who are known for their popular hits “War Room” and “Fireproof.”

It focuses on identity as it follows a high school basketball coach whose team dwindles away when the town's largest manufacturing plant shuts down. He ends up coaching cross-country and meets an unlikely runner who pushes herself to the limit.

— Appeals court rules in favor of Christian videographers

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit ruled in favor of a Minnesota Christian couple, saying the state cannot force them to film same-sex weddings.

The ruling on Friday largely overturned a lower court ruling against Carl and Angel Larsen of Telescope Media Group.

The Larsens had filed a lawsuit in 2016 against the Minnesota Human Rights Act’s ban on sexual orientation discrimination, arguing that it would force them to film same-sex weddings.

The appeals court ruled that the state’s Human Rights Act violated the couple’s First Amendment rights.

— Controversial evangelist Todd Bentley accused of ‘perverse sexual addiction’

An estranged protégé of controversial evangelist Todd Bentley at Fresh Fire USA has accused Bentley of “perverse sexual addiction” and charged that he is “not fit for public ministry.”

Stephen Powell went public with his accusations on Facebook last week after failed attempts to have other leaders intervene.

Bentley responded on Facebook a day later, admitting that he has “things” in his past that he has been working out with a therapist and accountability team. But he denied some of Powell’s accusations as “false,” including claims of adultery or homosexual relations with interns.

Bentley had been restored to ministry a decade ago after divorcing his wife and getting involved in an emotional relationship with a staff member.

— NC officer says he was fired for following ‘Billy Graham Rule’

A deputy with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina says he was fired for following the “Billy Graham Rule” on the job and is now suing his former employer.

Manuel Torres, who is a Southern Baptist deacon, said he had asked for a religious accommodation when he was asked to train a female deputy in 2017. As a married man, he did not want to spend extended period of time alone with a female who is not his wife.

That request was denied and he was later fired.
