The death toll from the coronavirus outbreak has now risen past 1,000. With more than 40,000 people now affected by the virus, World Help, a Christian humanitarian organization, is sending aid to China, including fast masks and food.

With many families scared and unable to access supplies to protect themselves, World Help has partnered with local pastors to distribute the emergency relief supplies.

— Air Force removes commander’s name from prayer breakfast invitation

A U.S. Air Force base in Illinois was forced to remove a commander’s name from a prayer breakfast invitation after a secular organization complained.

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation argued that having Col. Jerimiah Heathman’s name on the invitation with an RSVP request constituted an endorsement of religion.

The invitation was edited to no longer show the commander’s name.

— Egypt extends detention of Coptic Christian activist

Authorities in Egypt have again delayed the court hearing for a Coptic Christian activist, who was jailed last November.

Rami Kamil was arrested after being accused of joining a terror group but advocates contend that he was targeted for his human rights and religious freedom advocacy.

He was slated to appear before the Supreme State Security Prosecution last month but the Ministry of Interior failed to bring him to the hearing. His next hearing date has not been set.

— New Netflix series features Christian pharmacist taking down opioid mill

A new four-episode Netflix docuseries features the story of a Christian pharmacist in New Orleans suburb who turned the grief from his son’s death into a determination to shut down a doctor he believed was fraudulently prescribing painkillers to thousands in his community.

“The Pharmacist” was released last week and centers on the efforts of Dan Schneider, whose son was shot dead during a drug deal gone bad.

Through his own investigation, Schneider was able to identify the doctor who was exacerbating the opioid crisis through fraudulent prescriptions and bring an end to her practice.

— Charity creating tiny house community for low-income persons

A charity in Ohio plans to create a tiny house community on property near a church for low-income persons.

Starting this summer, the Monroe Street Neighborhood Center will create around 20 houses, each 400 square feet, and charge $400 a month in rent.

The homes would be for singles and couples but the organization hopes to build larger homes in the future for families.
