Islamic extremist groups in Burkina Faso killed at least 250 civilians since last April, according to a new report released by a human rights watchdog group that also sheds more details surrounding attacks against churches and worshiping Christians.

On Monday, the nongovernmental organization Human Rights Watch released a new report highlighting the escalation of extremism in the West African country in which one of the “fastest-growing displacement crises” on the continent is developing as hundreds of thousands fled for their lives last year.

— Hallmark to cut 400 jobs weeks after conservative boycott over kissing brides ad

Hallmark Cards Inc., the Missouri-based owner of the Hallmark Channel that faced a boycott from conservatives last month for featuring ads of two kissing brides, announced plans Monday to cut 400 jobs from its global workforce including 325 from their Kansas City-based headquarters.

Last month, just before Christmas, The Hallmark Channel, which bills itself as the “country’s leading destination for quality family entertainment,” apologized for removing an ad from Zola.com that features two brides kissing and reinstated it after backlash from LGBT advocates.

The ad was initially removed after Hallmark heard the complaints of One Million Moms which requested that its content remain family friendly. When One Million Moms discovered Hallmark Channel had reversed course, the group urged supporters of conservative family values to boycott the channel.

— White evangelicals disagree with most Americans on religion’s influence on gov't policies: poll

White evangelical Protestants hold views that are different from most other Americans when it comes to how much influence religion should have on government policies, according to a new poll that also shows white evangelicals are more supportive of the Trump administration's policies than other Christians and non-Christian groups.

The Associated Press and the NORC Center for Public Affairs Research at the University of Chicago released a survey this month that found white evangelical Protestants believe religion should have more influence on government policies than it currently does, while most other Americans believe religion should have less influence on public policy than it already has.

— Williams thanks God for abortion; pro-life women respond: Babies worth more than trophies

After Michelle Williams used her platform to promote abortion at the Golden Globes Sunday, pro-life advocates and conservative leaders took to social media to condemn the actress’s “sad” comments.

Williams, who won Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie for her role on "Fosse/Verdon," told the crowd Sunday evening that she would not have won her award without previously having had an abortion.

While Williams’ speech was met with applause from the audience, pro-life advocates and conservative leaders took to social media to condemn her comments.

Lila Rose, anti-abortion activist and founder of Live Action, tweeted. “No trophy is worth more than a child's life. Sacrificing our children to pursue our dreams is the total antithesis of women's empowerment.”

— Early Rain Covenant Church vows to 'keep on fighting' despite imprisonment of pastor Wang Yi

Members of Early Rain Covenant Church have vowed to keep fighting despite escalating persecution of Christians in China and the recent sentencing of their pastor, Wang Yi, to nine years in prison.

The 5,000 member church issued an “exhortation and protest” against the severe sentence and expressed hope that God will be glorified throughout the ordeal after Wang was sentenced to prison Dec. 30 on charges of subversion of power and illegal business operations.

Early Rain Covenant Church was first raided during a Sunday evening service in December 2018 after authorities claimed the church had violated religious regulations because it was not registered with the government. Wang was detained along with his wife, Jiang Rong, and more than 100 members of the congregation.

China’s Communist Party requires that Protestants worship only in churches recognized and regulated by the officially sanctioned Three-Self Patriotic Movement.

Persecution watchdog group Open Doors USA ranks China 27th on its list of 50 countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian.
