Pastor David Jeremiah warned that churches in the United States have forgotten their purpose and have become entertainment-driven social organizations instead.

The California pastor, who leads Shadow Mountain Community Church, said too many churches have become obsessed with remaining relevant and filling their pews.

He told The Christian Post: “Christians have two major markers in their lives: When they become Christians, and when they go to Heaven. But most Christians don’t know what to do in between those two markers, and that’s because churches don’t teach them.”

Jeremiah has a new book coming out later this year that offers guidance on how to live each day as Christ followers. The book is called Everything You Need.

—New short film exposes persecution in North Korea

There’s a new short film titled “Humanity Denied: Religious Freedom in North Korea” that exposes the persecution of Christians in the reclusive country.

The film, created by the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, was shown last week in Washington, D. C. There, formerly imprisoned pastor Kenneth Bae said the North Korean government is more afraid of Christianity spreading in their country than they are of nuclear weapons.

The Korean-American pastor said: “North Korea is not a country where Christians are being persecuted; it is a country [where] Christianity has been eliminated, the total elimination taking place. And if you're Christians, they'll kill you, they'll kill your parents."

— Katy Perry in court, accused of copying beat of Christian rap song

Pop star Katy Perry was in a California court last week after being accused of copyright infringement by Rapper Flame and the co-creators of his Christian rap song.

The Christian rappers claim Perry’s 2013 single, “Dark Horse,” features the same underlying beat from their 2008 song “Joyful Noise.”

Perry testified that she never heard the Christian song before.

The trial is continuing this week.

— Virginia pastor defends Trump with ‘America: Love or leave it’ sign

A Virginia pastor has sparked controversy with a church sign that reads, “America: Love or Leave It” amid furor over President Donald Trump’s tweets telling four congresswomen to “go back” to where they came from.

Pastor E. W. Lucas of Friendship Baptist Church in Appomattox denounced those who speak badly of the president and of America and suggested such critics should try living in “other countries for a little while.”

Earlier, Trump had tweeted that four Democratic congresswomen, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, should “go back” and help fix their broken countries and then come back and “show us how it is done” rather than “viciously” saying how the U.S. government should be run.

Those tweets were condemned as racist by the House of Representatives.

— Burmese pastor details torture in prison

A Christian pastor from northern Myanmar recently detailed his torture in jail.

Pastor Langjaw Gam Seng, who was jailed in 2016 for helping journalists report on the bombing of Christian churches, said for a month his hands were shackled behind his back, his eyes were sealed and he was given minimal food.

He spent 15 months in jail and was released in 2018.

Christians have experienced repression in the Buddhist-majority nation, with many abused and displaced by the military.
