Molly Greene was 72.

Greene founded Water Mission with her husband in 2001 after visiting Honduras when it was devastated by a hurricane. Water Mission has since given 4 million people in 55 countries access to clean and drinkable water.

— Court: SC school district can’t have prayers at graduation

A district court judge ruled last week that a South Carolina school district cannot allow official prayers or religious music at their graduation ceremonies.

Judge Bruce Hendricks ordered that Greenville County School District not encourage or participate in causing prayers during the ceremonies. At the same time, the judge ruled that students who give remarks at graduation are allowed to include a prayer or other religious content provided that no one else is asked to participate.

A lawsuit had been filed in 2013 by the American Humanist Association on behalf of an unnamed family. In 2017, the court ruled against the school district, banning the use of a Christian chapel for graduation ceremonies.

— Fulani killings of Nigerian Christians constitute ‘genocide,’ says Jubilee Campaign

The massacres of Christian farming communities in Nigeria by Fulani militants constitute a “genocide,” the Jubilee Campaign recently declared.

The humans rights NGO submitted research and data to the International Criminal Court, chronicling at least 52 Fulani militant attacks this year alone and the deaths of thousands of Christians since 2014. The group said the attacks are increasing in scale and in severity. They also appear to be premeditated and focused on Christian-populated villages.

Jubilee Campaign Director Ann Buwalda said, “I believe legally that we are now rising to the place of genocide.”

— Trump admin. delays enforcing Title X abortion funding ban

The Trump administration decided to delay the implementation of a rule barring family planning centers that receive federal funding from providing abortion referrals.

The Health and Human Services Department sent a notice to Planned Parenthood affiliates and others on Saturday, giving them until Sept. 18 to comply with the new rule. Those that provide or refer patients for abortions would not be able to receive Title X funding.

The rule was originally scheduled to go into effect immediately last week.

— Berkeley city scraps gender pronouns from city code

The city council of Berkeley in California voted last week to scrap the word "man" from words like "manpower" and "manhole," eliminating any “gender preference language” in its municipal codes.

“Fireman” or “firewoman” will now be the non-gendered “firefighter.” "Heirs" will now be called "beneficiaries." Instead of "craftsmen," the city code will now say "craftspeople" or "artisans."

The ordinance was sponsored by Councilman Rigel Robinson, who is 23 and a recent graduate of UC-Berkeley. He said he wanted the laws to reflect society becoming more aware of issues of gender identity.
