An American missionary who set up a nonprofit health clinic in Uganda has been accused of impersonating a doctor and acting in ways that potentially led to the deaths of hundreds of children.

Renee Bach from Bedford, Virginia, has been accused in a lawsuit of illegally operating a medical facility called Serving His Children where treatment was provided to children suffering from malnutrition and other health issues.

A lawsuit was filed in January by the group Women’s Probono Initiative on behalf of two Ugandan mothers whose children died after receiving treatment at the ministry Bach founded. The group is alleging that the actions of Bach and Serving His Children led to the deaths of hundreds of children.

Serving His Children claims to have treated some 3,400 children suffering from severe malnutrition since 2011.

In a statement published last November, Serving His Children denied allegations that Bach misrepresented herself as a medical professional, saying that she was: “Trained in basic first aid, CPR and emergency medical stabilization techniques, including IV placement and would be asked by the nursing staff to assist in certain situations.”

— Female athlete fights back after 2 transgender runners take top spots in girls’ race

A Christian legal organization is defending a 16-year-old high school athlete in Connecticut who was disqualified from competing in a girls' regional track championship after two top spots were given to boys who identify as transgender.

The legal group Alliance Defending Freedom is defending sprinter Selina Soule who maintains that her civil rights have been violated.

ADF is asking the Department of Education to investigate the situation and "restore a level playing field" for the teenager. The teenagers has also filed a federal complaint with the department’s Office for Civil Rights which enforces Title IX, the federal statute that protects students from sex-based discrimination.

— Alabama church gets its own police force after governor signs new law

A church in Alabama can now hire its own private police force to protect its church and school campuses.

Governor Kay Ivey signed legislation allowing Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham to set up its own department and make arrests when a crime is committed on its church property and private school campuses that serve 2,000 students.

Judge John Carrol at Cumberland School of Law told ABC News that Briarwood officers will have: “The power to arrest, the power to engage in hot pursuit, and the power to use non-lethal force.”

The ACLU of Alabama argues that allowing the church to establish its own police force is a violation of the Establishment Clause.

— Democratic presidential candidates support decriminalizing “sex work”

Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, who are among the 24 presidential candidates running for the Democratic nomination in 2020, are throwing their support behind efforts to decriminalize prostitution.

Senator Elizabeth Warren told The Washington Post’s Dave Weigel: "I’m open to decriminalization. Sex workers, like all workers, deserve autonomy but they are particularly vulnerable to physical and financial abuse and hardship.”

Proponents for decriminalizing prostitution argue that sex trafficking is different from "consensual" or "voluntary" sex work. But prostitution abolitionists say trafficking cannot be separated from prostitution.

Prostitution abolitionists advocate for what is called the Nordic model, which decriminalizes the sale of sex while banning its purchase in order to target the sex trade at its source: the johns and the pimps.

Other democratic presidential candidates who’ve come out in support of decriminalizing prostitution include Senator Kamala Harris of California, former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, and Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard.
