The World Evangelical Alliance began its General Assembly, which is held around once every 10 years, in Indonesia on Thursday.

Thousands of evangelicals from dozens of countries gathered to address the question of what evangelism and disciple-making should look like over the next decade.

Their theme this year is “Your Kingdom Come.”

— Judge blocks conscience rule for healthcare providers

A federal judge in New York blocked on Wednesday the Trump administration’s “conscience rule” that would have allowed healthcare workers to abstain from participating in abortions or providing other services such as contraception or gender transition procedures due to moral or religious objections.

U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer in Manhattan said the rule was unconstitutionally coercive because it would let the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services withhold billions of dollars of funding from hospitals, clinics, universities and other healthcare providers that did not comply.

Stephanie Taub, senior counsel for First Liberty Institute, said the “decision leaves health care professionals across America vulnerable to being forced to perform, facilitate, or refer for procedures that violate their conscience.”

— YouTube censors pediatrician’s criticism of trans surgery

YouTube has censored a video of a pediatrician for speaking against transgender surgery.

Dr. Michelle Cretella of the American College of Pediatricians had said in a video for the Daily Signal that people who want to cut off an arm or leg are deemed mentally ill but those who want to cut off healthy reproductive organs are deemed transgender.

YouTube said her comments constituted hate speech. The video is still available for viewing on Facebook.

Cretella said the censorship reveals “how politicized our medical and psychological associations have become.”

— Missionaries killed in crash with children and orphan in South Africa

A Canadian couple serving as missionaries were killed alongside their two children when their vehicle was hit in a head-on collision in South Africa on Sunday.

The missionaries were Brendan Perrott and wife Melissa who began working with Bulembu Ministries in 2016. Also killed in the crash was an orphan they were mentoring.

Bulembu Ministries said they are devastated by the loss and noted that the Perrotts followed the call of God and impacted many lives.

— Francis Chan moving to Asia to be missionary

Francis Chan, who formerly led a megachurch in California, announced that he will be moving to Asia with his family in February to be a missionary.

After returning from ministering to people in Myanmar, Chan said he felt it was time to move.

Speaking to students at Azusa Pacific University this week, he said he felt like he had been fishing in the same pond his whole life and that pond was getting crowded with other fishermen who were fighting and trying new things.

Staying at the pond would mean continuing to live a comfortable life. But Chan said his calling is to go fish so following the call of Jesus to deny oneself and pick up His cross, Chan has decided to move to a new pond.
