The mother of Botham Jean, who was shot by Dallas police officer Amber Guyger inside his apartment last year, declared that “God is good,” after the former officer was charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday.

Allison Jean was also heard saying, “Oh, thank God. Thank God,” inside the courtroom.

Guyger fatally shot Botham Jean in his apartment in 2018 after she mistook his apartment for her own and thought Jean was a burglar. During the trial, the jury heard testimony from neighbors about how often they got lost and wound up "on the wrong floor of the South Side Flats where Guyger and Jean lived," The Dallas Morning News reported.

Botham Jean graduated from Harding University, a private Christian university in Searcy, Arkansas. At the time of his death he was working at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Dallas where he was only recently hired after an internship with the company.

Virginia teacher fired for not using trans student's preferred pronouns sues school district

A Virginia teacher who was fired for not agreeing to use the preferred pronouns of a trans-identified student has filed a lawsuit against the school board that dismissed him.

Peter Vlaming, a former French teacher at West Point High School in Williamsburg, filed the complaint in the Circuit Court for the County of King William on Monday. The lawsuit argues that the school board violated “Vlaming’s constitutional, statutory, and contractual rights” when they decided to fire him last year.

While the teacher agreed to use the student’s preferred name, the teacher avoided using pronouns, which allegedly caused offense.

Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative law firm that specializes in religious liberty cases and is helping to represent Vlaming, said the teacher’s firing was “a crusade to compel conformity.”

Actress fired for expressing biblical view of homosexuality sues for religious discrimination

A Christian actress who lost her lead role in the stage production of "The Color Purple" after expressing a biblical view on homosexuality is now planning to sue both the theatre and her former agents for religious discrimination.

In March, London-based actress Seyi Omooba was given a starring role as Celie in a production of "The Color Purple," based on Alice Walker’s prize-winning novel, to be staged in Birmingham and Leicester, England.

She was dropped from the production after Aaron Lee Lambert, who stars in the West End production of the musical “Hamilton,” demanded she renounce her views in a Facebook post she wrote in September 2014 where she shared Bible verses from First Corinthians and Genesis.

— 3 'best’ and ‘worst' new TV shows for families this fall: Parents Television Council

The Parents Television Council has released its annual guide to help parents determine which network shows premiering this fall are appropriate to watch and which shows parents should turn off.

Shows listed by the nonpartisan family media watchdog group include the “best and worst” new shows. Among the best shows are ABC’s “Mixed-ish” and CBS’ “All Rise.” Among the worst are Fox’s “Prodigal Son” that is about the son of a serial killer, and CW’s “Nancy Drew” which shows the character having sex in her first scene. The series also embraces the occult, with seances and ghosts, says the Parent Television Council’s head of research operations, Christopher Gildemeister.

— Oregon-based exorcist says demonic possession cases ‘are getting darker’

An exorcist in Oregon says incidents of demonic possession have been “getting darker” in recent years.

James Cloud, a former Anglican who is an Archbishop in the Advent Catholic Church, told CBS’ Portland affiliate that Americans’ interest in drugs, Ouija boards, and the occult is fueling a need to perform more exorcisms. He also says that too many churches are teaching a “sanitized” approach to spiritual life that omits possessions.

According to a 2018 gathering of exorcists at the Pontifical University of Regina Apostolorum in Rome, the number of requests for exorcisms has tripled over the last decade to about 500,000.
