Missionary leaders from over 34 countries convened at the Museum of the Bible on Monday morning to launch A.D. 2020 Global Year of the Bible, a first-of-its-kind evangelical initiative endorsed by Roman Catholic Pope Francis.

The movement, which is a collaboration of like-minded organizations, aims to affirm and promote the value of the Bible for all people and calls for an end to Bible poverty at a time when over 1,600 languages lack New and Old Testament translation.

As part of the initiative, several stadium-sized events will be organized by various organizations in which thousands will come to pray and worship. The initiative will also facilitate partnerships between like-minded organizations worldwide to accelerate Bible literacy efforts.

Six goals of the A.D. 2020 Year of the Bible movement are: pray, translate, publish, distribute, educate and motivate people to engage with God’s word.

China makes churches replace Ten Commandments with Xi Jinping quotes

Churches across China’s central province of Henan have been forced to replace the Ten Commandments with President Xi Jinping’s quotes amid pressure from the government.

The Ten Commandments have been removed from nearly every Three-Self church and meeting venue in a county of Luoyang city and replaced with the president’s quotes as part of the Chinese Communist Party’s efforts to “sinicize” Christianity.

Catholic Indian leaders jailed on charges of forced conversion

Christian leaders in India are demanding the release of two Catholics arrested earlier this month on accusations they forcibly converted locals to Christianity and illegally occupied the land.

Priest Binoy John and catechist Munna Hansda were arrested on Sept. 6 in Rajdaha, a locality in the Eastern Indian state of Jharkhand, where the government is controlled by the Hindu nationalist-aligned Bharatiya Janata Party.

The two were arrested along with a second priest, Arun Vincent. But Vincent was released while the other two remain in custody.

The Catholics were detained after police acted on a complaint from a villager accusing them of pressuring locals to convert to the Christian faith.

For the last few years, Christians in Jharkhand have complained of a state-sponsored campaign designed to discredit Christian ministries and leaders in the state.

PC(USA) congregation hosts pagan sculpture at church

The United Presbyterian Church of Binghamton, a PC(USA) congregation associated with the pro-LGBT group More Light Presbyterians, hosted a fifteen-foot tall totem sculpture known as the Sviatovid, a Slavic god of war, fertility, and abundance.

Lead pastor the Reverend Kimberly Chastain responded to critics on Facebook, citing the Westminster Catechism and explaining that the historic confession states that “either everything is sacred (by God’s grace), or nothing is sacred (apart from the love of God).”

Pro-life group backs FDA's ban on online abortion pill sales amid lawsuit

Abortionist Rebecca Gomperts, who's a registered physician in Austria, and founder and director of Women on Waves and Women on Web, filed a complaint last week against the the Food & Drug Administration's ban on online abortion pill sales.

Randall K. O'Bannon, director of education and research at the National Right to Life Committee, told The Christian Post that "the evidence out there of the risks and dangers associated with these pills show that the FDA is more than justified in maintaining strict controls on their distribution and use."

"Gomperts' lawsuit may serve to advance her group's agenda, but it will not serve the health and safety interests of women — or their unborn babies," O'Bannon said.
