$425 Million Jackpot - Largest Powerball Ever After No Winners Again

No numbers matched Saturday night's Powerball draw, pushing the jackpot into a record-breaking figure.

The Powerball jackpot has reached a record $425 million. The number draw was the 15th consecutive time that no winners were selected. On Saturday the jackpot was set at $325 million, the fourth highest jackpot in the game's history. The winning numbers were 22, 32, 37, 44, 50 and Powerball 34. But the new, growing jackpot has broken the record as the largest in the history of the multistate lottery game.

The Powerball is held in 42 states, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia. The current total cash payout for Wednesday's jackpot has been estimated at around $278 million after taxes. The record is second only to the recent mega million jackpot of $656 million that garnered attention this past March. Chaos ensued after the winning numbers were announced and some people falsely claimed to news reporters that they had a winning ticket.

The final jackpot had reached over $650 million after a mass amount of ticket sales. Three winners were announced during a Saturday drawing, one each in Marlyand, Kentucky and Illinois.

Some internet users were already buzzing about who the $425 million jackpot should go to.

"I hope a group of soon-to-be unemployed Hostess folks win this," one user wrote, speaking about the recent shut down of the Hostess company following a strike by the labor union. A number of rumors have been sparked over who might consider buying out the Twinkie.
