8 Pound Strasburger Debuts This Summer

Baseball season is approaching, and records are hoping to be broken. One record, however, may be shattered: that of the largest hamburger offered by ballparks.

The Washington Nationals will debut the new StrasBurger, which weighs a whopping eight pounds. In a press release, the Nationals offer a description of the massive burger. "Weighing eight pounds total (including toppings), the StrasBurger is a monstrous all-beef burger (combination of ground brisket, chuck and short ribs)."

"The burger is served on a large burger bun with our secret sauce, American cheese, shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, sliced red onions, pickle chips and served with a cone basket of fresh cut fries and a pitcher of your choice of soft drink. This signature dish is the perfect entrée to share at this affordably-priced family restaurant," explains the press statement.

Red Porch Restaurant in Center Field Plaza will feature the meal should anyone be tempted to order. "I normally wouldn't post much about ballpark food, but this thing is just too much to ignore," wrote blogger Matt Snyder. "Think about it, if you go to a gym to work out…grab one of the five-pound dumbbells. The StrasBurger weighs three pounds more than that. Wow."

The StrasBurger announcement comes on the heels of a new study that says red meat could take years from one's life. "A diet high in red and processed meats deluges the body with inflammatory compounds like saturated fat and nitrates," observes Samantha Heller, dietician and nutritionist at the Center for Cancer Care in Connecticut.

"We get heart disease, cancer, diabetes and other chronic diseases. There are numerous studies showing a link between eating red and processed meat and chronic diseases and death," she explains.

Even fans of stadium food are calling the StrasBurger a waste of food and nothing more than a gimmick. Looks like it will be a hard sell for the Nationals.
