Peter Falk of 'Columbo' Dies at 83; Suffered Alzheimer's
Peter Falk, who was best known for playing Lieutenant Columbo, died Thursday night at the age of 83 at his home in Beverly Hills, Calif. Falk had reportedly been suffering with Alzheimer’s disease.
His career spanned from television to movies to Broadway performances in both comedy and drama.
Falk won four Emmy Awards for the detective role he played in “Columbo.” The program ran from 1971 to 1978, and again from 1989 to 2003 as TV movies. Falk also won an Emmy in 1962 for his role in an episode of “The Dick Powell Theatre,” a Golden Globe for “Columbo” and he was nominated for two Oscars for various movie roles.

His final role came in a movie released in 2009 called "American Cowslip." He played a character named Father Randolph.
