Adele Baby Targeted on Twitter, Cruelty Sparks Outcry

While Adele and her boyfriend have not officially announced the arrival of their baby son, Twitter users have targeted the family with hurtful messages on Monday.

The British songstress welcomed her first child with Simon Konecki on Friday, according to many reports, but the couple has not publicly confirmed the news.

"We are not releasing a statement at this time," Adele's representative said in response to inquiries by Us Weekly and the Daily Mail.

While many Twitter users congratulated the "Rolling in the Deep" singer, other Internet trolls posted cruel messages and jokes about Adele and her son.

A Twitter user named Vanessa Bieber posted the most disturbing message: "Aw Adele gave birth to a baby. Is it fat and handicapped lol?" The user also advocated harming the child.

Shortly after, the account was deleted from the social media site.

Other users continued to make malicious and disparaging comments about Adele's weight.

"Adele has given birth this week," wrote Jack. "It must have been tough being pregnant for the last four years."

Comedienne Joan Rivers also posted a joke about the singer to Twitter, writing, "Congratulations to Adele on the birth of her 68 pound and 8 ounces bouncing baby boy."

Alternately, many Twitter users wished Adele well and defended her against the online cruelty.

"People need to stop sending Adele hate on here about her baby boy, you bunch of pathetic, sad, idiotic people," wrote Zoe.

James Vincent added, "I opened a paper 2day and read that some people on twitter were cyber bullying Adele's new born child. Those people are pathetic."

"I didn't know that @OfficialAdele was pregnant," wrote Nai. "Wow! Congratulations on ur new bundle of joy!"

Adele, 24, confirmed her pregnancy back in May with a statement on her website.

"I'm delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together," wrote the Grammy Award-winner. "I wanted you to hear the news direct from me, obviously we're over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time. Yours always, Adele xx"

Meanwhile, Adele provided her voice on the theme track for the new James Bond film "Skyfall." The film hits theaters Nov. 9 in the U.S.
