The return of "Alaska: The Last Frontier" on Discovery Channel is in a matter of weeks. The network announced that the show will be back for season 7 and singer-songwriter Jewel will return as well.
The new season of "Alaska: The Last Frontier" will premiere in October. Discovery Channel will also air short and unscripted live clips featuring the Kilcher family every week as a new and added offering. This will be in addition to the regular Facebook live sessions that was introduced last summer.
A teaser to the show's return confirmed Jewel's participation. She's seen helping out her dad in rebuilding the homestead in the video. The rehabilitation project will also put the Kilchers' relationship with family members through challenges and tests.
Jewel's presence in "Alaska: The Last Frontier" became a big deal last season since the Grammy-winning singer hasn't been home for several years. Viewers dubbed her as the prodigal daughter when she finally made her debut on the show.
"I wanted to bring my son home, so that he could learn to do things that were intrinsic to Alaska," Jewel said in an interview with KTUU in deciding to go back home. "It's just an incredible resource as a mom, raising a boy I really wanted him to learn a lot of the values that I learned growing up in Alaska."
Aside from the homestead overhaul, viewers will also watch the Kilchers go on a rescue mission in the wilderness in the upcoming season. The family will then venture 140 miles to Kodiak Island to look for a wild buffalo herd and transport this back by boat.
"Alaska: The Last Frontier" follows a family living in Homer, Alaska without any modern heating facility or plumbing. The Kilchers also forage for food by hunting. The show displays survival skills in the wilderness which viewers can learn from.
The new season of "Alaska: The Last Frontier" will premiere on Sunday, Oct. 1, at 9:00 p.m. EST on Discovery Channel.
