Amazing Race Cast 2013: Season 23 Contains Two Former NFL Players

On Wednesday the cast for the 23rd season of CBS' The Amazing Race with the 11 new teams preparing for a race that will take them around the globe in hopes of winning the grand prize of $1 million.

One of the unique characteristics of the show and one that has helped the show survive more than two decades on cable television is the diverse background that has comprised not only the new cast but also participants of years past.

This year is not different the cast includes 14 men and 8 women with 10 members being under thirty years old.

The cast also includes two former NFL players, Chester Pitts II and Ephraim Salaam. Pitts is currently a sports anchor and analyst in Texas. Pitts played nine NFL seasons as a Seattle Seahawk and Houston Texans. Salaam co-hosts Fox Sports Live and spent 13 years playing in the NFL for teams that included the Houston Texans and Atlanta Falcons.

Last season's twist, the Double Express Pass, will reappear. The Pass allows the team winning the first leg of the race to enjoy an automatic Express Pass and requires them to give a second Pass to another team.

The shows longevity has also been supplemented with awards. The show has won an Emmy for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program nine of the last 10 years and the show has been nominated once again this year.

Host and producer Phil Keoghan is also an Emmy winner and will once again rejoin the cast by leading them over four continents, through nine countries, and past 35,000 miles.

Keoghan just finished Le Ride on 19 August where Keoghan rode a bike through France on the same route as the 1928 Tour de France, which saw him ride over 3,500 miles in 28 days.

The Amazing Race premieres Sunday, September 29 at 8pm ET.
