Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich Comes to AT&T's HTC Vivid

AT&T is the first carrier in the U.S. to bring the Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich update to one of its smartphones as the carrier began rolling the upgrade for the software out to the HTC Vivid earlier this week.

However, the update that ended up being released was pulled shortly after, but according to 9to5 Google, it has once again become available.

A recent tweet on HTC's Twitter informed Vivid owners on another interesting feature that would come with this new Android 4.0 update for the smartphone.

"The HTC Vivid on @ATT will receive an upgrade to ICS, along with @beatsbydre, starting today," tweeted HTC yesterday.

AT&T also confirmed the Beats by Dre addition in the official press release.

"After installing the software update, customers can now enjoy the optimized audio experience of Beats by Dr.Dre Audio and new and improved HTC Sense experience," said AT&T.

The carrier also revealed the other devices that will follow the HTC Vivid in receiving the ICS update in the near future.

That list included the LG Nitro, Motorola ATRIX 2, Motorola ATRIX 4G, Pantech Burst, Pantech Element, Samsung Captivate Glide, Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket and Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9.

Android 4.0 brings many exciting new features along with it including Face Unlock that allows users to unlock their smartphones by using facial recognition. It uses the front camera on a device to scan the owners face and gives them access to the phone based the owner's identity.

AT&T customers can access the Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for the HTC Vivid on Wi-Fi by visiting http://www/att/com/vividupdate. If Wi-Fi is unavailable, AT&T customers can use their PC to download and install it via sideload. SMS notifications will begin going out today to Vivid owners who have not yet downloaded the upgrade.

The HTC Vivid currently comes with Android 2.3, Gingerbread pre-installed.
