Anne Hathaway Addresses Critics: 'People Needed A Break From Me'

Anne Hathaway acknowledged the criticism that followed her many awards acceptance speeches last year.

The 31-year-old actress also caught flak following her hosting duties alongside James Franco at the Oscars in 2011, and the insults did not go unnoticed.

Between "Les Miserables" and "The Dark Knight Rises," Hathaway admitted that the public might have grown tired of her.

On Wednesday during the Sundance Film Festival, Hathaway explained why she has kept a low profile for the past year.

"My impression is that people needed a break from me," she joked, according to the Huffington Post.

The actress then explained that actors have very little control over when their movies hit theaters.

"I think there's a common misconception about actors, that we have a lot more control than we do about when things happen," she told Huffington Post of her unpredictable schedule.

Hathaway did not appear in any films during 2013; with the exception of a small cameo role in Joseph Gordon-Levitt's "Don Jon."

However, today, Hathaway is promoting her latest project "Song One" which premiered at Sundance. She will also appear in Christopher Nolan's new film "Interstellar."

Meanwhile, Hathaway is not the only Hollywood star to vow against appearing in too many films at once. Last year, Ryan Gosling said he needed a break from acting.

"I've lost perspective on what I'm doing, said the actor, speaking to the Associated Press. "I think it's good for me to take a break and reassess why I'm doing it and how I'm doing it. I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does."

Despite needing a break, Gosling may have trouble actually taking time away from Hollywood, according to an insider.

"Although Ryan has been saying publicly that he wants to take a break from acting to relax, executives will be falling over themselves to woo him once the scripts are finalized," a source at Metro U.K.
