Anne Hathaway Engaged to Longtime Beau

The Princess Diaries actress Anne Hathaway is engaged to longtime boyfriend Adam Shulman.

Hathaway's publicist confirmed to several media sources that she has accepted a proposal from the 30-year-old actor, whom Hathaway has been dating since 2008. Shulman is best known for his role as Deputy Enos Strate in The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning and has made television appearances on shows such as American Dreams and The West Wing.

Rumors of an engagement were sparked when she was spotted with Shulman in New York City on Thanksgiving weekend sporting a large diamond ring.

"We hit if off immediately but it took us a pretty long time to get together," Hathaway has said of the relationship, according to The Daily Mail. "He thought that I had a boyfriend and I thought that he had a girlfriend, so I thought that I’d better keep my distance because I didn’t want to be that girl."

Hathaway began dating Shulman just months after she had split from her longtime boyfriend of four years, Raffaello Follieri, an Italian businessman who was convicted of fraud and money laundering charges and sentenced to four and a half years in prison. After the highly publicized break-up, Hathaway and Shulman kept their relationship quiet.

"Adam totally ruined my plan," Hathaway told U.K.'s Marie Claire of her intentions to stay single after her previous relationship. "I was really actually looking forward to a little alone time and then I fall in love like a fool."

Fans of the 28-year-old actress, who recently wrapped up filming her latest role as Catwoman for The Dark Knight Rises, took to Twitter to express their well wishes toward the couple.

"Congrats Anne Hathaway!" tweeted JulianneG. "So nice to hear about engagements rather than splits and divorces!"

Fulloflighters tweeted, "congratulations to Anne Hathaway, she's engaged! I hope she has the best wedding ever with her prince charming."
