Anti-Porn Group Hosts National Summit to Combat Pornography, Sexual Exploitation

Morality in Media, an anti-pornography organization which is part of the Coalition to End Sex Exploitation, is hosting a summit in Washington, D.C. to train people on how to combat pornography and sexual exploitation in their communities.

"We are not going to let the pornographers and pop media continue to push the lies that pornography is victimless, and because of the 'ubiquity' of porn, there is nothing we can do to stop sexual exploitation. There is a strong movement forming and all are encouraged to join us," Dawn Hawkins, executive director for Morality in Media, told The Christian Post Friday.

The event will be held at the Tyson's Corner Marriott in Virginia on May 16-17 and is billed as the conference that will officially kick-start the Coalition to End Sexual Exploitation. Hawkins noted that this will be "the coalition's first event, as well as the first national conference on the harms of pornography in 27 years."

"Organizations, activists and concerned citizens from around the country are joining together to receive expert training on the latest research and to learn how to improve their individual efforts. We hope this revolutionary conference will challenge the movement to protect innocence and dignity," she added.

Hawkins told CP that she expects 300 people will attend the two-day summit that will feature speakers from various professional and ideological backgrounds.

Speakers expected to address attendees will include Gail Dines, professor of sociology and women's studies at Wheelock College; Dr. Donald L. Hilton, a neurosurgeon and researcher on the addictive nature of porn; and Donny Pauling, a former Playboy pornography film producer turned anti-porn activist.

"These are the leaders and individuals who seek ways to activate and inspire their communities to stop the pandemic of harm from pornography and sexual exploitation," said Hawkins.

In addition to Morality in Media, there are several cosponsoring groups including the Family Research Council, the Catholic Diocese of Arlington, the American Family Association, and the Leadership Institute.

"We hope people learn that sex trafficking is happening in every town in the United States. It's not something happening 'out there somewhere,'" said Arina Grossu, director of FRC's Center for Human Dignity, in a statement shared with CP.

"Sex trafficking is also intricately linked to pornography, which is a modern epidemic fueling the sex trafficking industry. If we eliminate the demand, we eliminate the supply," Grossu added.

Hawkins of Morality in Media shared with CP that she hopes the summit will not only help with education, but also advocacy regarding laws and broadcasting standards.

"We expect other projects will arise politically on this issue, and through this united coalition, we will work to inform elected officials about the realities and harms of sexual exploitation," said Hawkins.
