Arnold Loves Maria, But It's Not Enough for Reconciliation

Arnold Schwarzenegger may love Maria Shriver, but it's not enough to stop the couple from separating. The two split after it was revealed that he had had an extramarital affair and fathered a child.

"We're not fighting any war; I still hope for reconciliation. I still love Maria," Schwarzenegger told Germany's Bild newspaper.

The couple separated last year after 25 years of marriage, with Shriver filing for divorce after it was announced that he had fathered a child out of wedlock. Rumors of reconciliation have surrounded Shriver and Schwarzenegger, but neither has made a move towards being together.

"We're having a great relationship," Schwarzenegger told Extra's Jerry Penacoli. "That's all I can tell you. I'm very proud of my kids. They are great kids and great athletes and very smart in school, so I'm very proud, but that's also because they have a great mother who is on top of the situation."

Schwarzenegger has always maintained that he and Shriver will be together again one day, though Shriver has remained mum on the subject. She has instead focused on her family and moving forward with her own life.

"I'm the forever optimist. So I do see that Maria and I get together eventually," Schwarzenegger told Sean Hannity in October.

Shriver has moved on and purchased a $10 million home in Brentwood near where Schwarzenegger lives, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It will hopefully help ease their children's lives and allow them to spend time with both parents, given that they have decided to share custody.

Schwarzenegger and Shriver have four children together: Katherine, Christine, Patrick, and Christopher. Schwarzenegger, however, has one additional child, Josephe, with former housekeeper Mildred Baena.

Apparently the news is still relatively new to Schwarzenegger, who made a public gaffe while talking to a Swedish newspaper.

"I have four wonderful children … well, actually, I have five," he said.
