'Arrow' Season 3 Cast, Plot Spoilers: Will Introduce More Characters, Reveal Felicity's Backstory

"NYPD Blue" actress Charlotte Ross has nabbed a key role on the new season of The CW's "Arrow"— as Felicity Smoak's mother.

According to TV Guide, Ross will be appearing in a November episode, though it is unclear if she will appear in a flashback or the current timeline. It was revealed at the Comic-Con convention last weekend that the fifth episode of Season 3 will shed light on Felicity's past, including her time at MIT.

Meanwhile, Deadline Hollywood confirmed that J.R. Ramirez has been cast as Ted "Wildcat" Grant. In the DC Comics, Ted Grant is a member of the Justice Society for America as well as the mentor and trainer of other masked vigilantes. However, in "Arrow," Grant will be a former boxer who now runs a gym for underprivileged youth.

Another pivotal DC character will be appearing on the upcoming season of the show, as "Medium" alum David Cubitt will guest star as Mark Shaw, who is one of the many who will take on the name "Manhunter."

In other news, TVLine is reporting that casting is underway for four new characters in the show. One of them is supposedly named Daniel, a handsome and successful entrepreneur who has the potential to be a rival of Oliver's, both personally and professionally.

The show runners are also looking to cast Seth, a "well-educated criminal with grand ambitions and a knack for chemistry"; Toshi, a recurring character in Oliver's Hong Kong flashbacks who will serve as his teacher and handler; and Akiko, Toshi's wife, who is likewise skilled in martial arts.

"Arrow" Season 3 will premiere on Oct. 8 at 8/7c on The CW.
