A horror attack in Riverside Park, New York City has seriously injured five people, including a 2 year old toddler, after a homeless man went on the rampage, randomly attacking park-goers with a pair of scissors.

The victims are said to have been stabbed and slashed by the attacker, who was later described by authorities as an emotionally disturbed man, and identified as Julius Graham.

Graham attacked a father and his 2 year old son, as well as three other people, as he went through the park along one of the running and bike routes conducting a series of random attacks.

One eye witness described, "He was looking for people he could mess with. He was looking for trouble," according to the New York Daily News.

The attacks began with the homeless man stabbing a 36 year old woman in the back. As soon as he had carried out that attack, he moved on and slashed a 36 year old man in the stomach.

After that he also slashed another 32 year old female jogger in the neck.

One witness described the horror: "She was screaming and was holding a coat over her neck. She told me she was stabbed. She was hysterical, crying."

A 35 year old man and his 2 year old daughter were next. The father was reportedly pushing the young toddler along in a stroller when they were also viciously attacked by the man with the scissors.

A passer-by witnessed that attack and stepped in, managing to pin Graham to the ground and held him there until police arrived at the scene and arrested him.

Although the man, Thomas Ciriacks, has been described as a hero, he has been modest about his actions: "I'm no hero. The real hero is the guy with the kid."

Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly has said that Graham had been taken into custody at Bellevue Hospital Center, and also reported that all the victims are expected to survive the horrific ordeal.
