BET Awards, Jay-Z Punks Kanye West in Taylor Swift Interruption Moment (VIDEO)

Kanye West had a taste of his own medicine at the 2012 Black Entertainment Television (BET) awards ceremony on Sunday night when his best friend Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter interrupted him during an acceptance speech.

West, who sat front row with girlfriend Kim Kardashian at the awards show, won the "video of the year" award along with Jay-Z for their hit song "Otis," beating Jay-Z's wife Beyonce, who had been nominated twice in the same category.

Jay-Z, 42, gave a brief acceptance speech before allowing West, 34, to also say a few words and as the "Mercy" rapper began to speak, Jay-Z interjected in a scene reminiscent to that of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at a previous awards show.

"Excuse me Kanye, I'm gonna let you continue, but," Jay-Z said to a roaring applause before casually laughing off the incident.

A red-faced West also laughed off Jay-Z's playful interjection even saying "I'm trying to defend your girl!" before proceeding with his speech.

"Thank you, BET, for allowing us to push the envelope. The awards make sense sometimes if something is really, really good. We put in a lot of work, a lot of hours, a lot of sleepless nights," West told the audience.

"We don't take it lightly. It's like being a new artist every day. ... Everybody knows we put in so many hours to bring you the best product possible. We don't take for granted the opportunity that y'all have given to us," he went on.

The duo also took home the "Best Group" award, which was presented earlier in the evening.

Jay-Z's abrupt interjection was a playful dig at West, who famously interrupted Swift during her acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV VMAs, where she was presented with the "Best Female Video."

"Taylor, I'm really happy for you. I'll let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!" West blurted after snatching the mic from the stunned singer's hands.

West eventually apologized to a devastated Swift after receiving widespread backlash from fans and critics over the ordeal.
