Beyonce GQ Cover Too Racy? Fans Weigh In

Beyonce will grace the cover of GQ magazine's February issue, it has been confirmed, and fans were recently given a sneak peek after a photo leaked online.

The 31-year-old Grammy award-winning singer appears in skimpy underwear and a cropped shirt in the men's magazine's upcoming edition. Fans recently flocked to social networking site Twitter to weigh in on the cover and while some liked it, others questioned the appropriateness of her overtly sexual look.

"Am I the only one who thinks @beyonce looks tacky and disgusting on the GQ cover leave that body for jay z eyes only nobody wants to see," DiamondsR4_eva tweeted.

"Beyonce claimed she never wanted to be seen as a SEX SYMBOL but damn girl, this new photoshoot for GQ proves otherwise!" Rikan Perez tweeted.

"Beyonce just proved you gotta sell sex to sell records with that GQ cover. Even if ur married with a kid and been awarded with 16grammys," Siphiwe tweeted.

The cover has raised concerns about women, sex and the constant need to push the envelope in the world of entertainment. Hollywood's "sex sells" mentality is often the reasoning behind the transition from demure to sexy that fans often see established female artists, like Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, and Beyonce go through.

Since giving birth in January 2011, Beyonce has taken extended breaks from performing, although she is said to be working on a new album.

Her absence from the music scene has undoubtedly given way to other prominent female pop artists including Nicki Minaj and Rihanna, who are both known for their highly sexualized images.

Some critics question whether industry pressure may have influenced Beyonce's decision to pose semi-nude on the cover of GQ. Others have pointed out that the magazine itself is known for its racy covers.

In 2008, actress Jennifer Aniston, 42, shocked fans when she appeared on the cover of GQ dressed only in a tie and in 2012, Rihanna maintained the publication's reputation for having immense shock value. The Bajan singer, 24, appeared wearing only a cropped jacket and jewelry.

In December it was announced that Beyonce, who is married to rapper Jay-Z, would be teaming up with Coca-Cola rival Pepsi as part of a $50 million deal that is designed to evolve both brands in 2013. She is scheduled to perform during the Superbowl halftime show, which is sponsored by Pepsi, on February 3.
